City to face 39 Celsius degrees: hot temperatures create problems for the elderly
39 Celsius degrees (102 degrees Fahrenheit) was the temperature recorded today between 12 and 2 PM in the city. In the South of Italy, in Sicily and Calabria, three have been the victims of this exceptional heat. In Florence, hot temperatures have created problems for old people, so the City Council has established a special service and a green number to support them. Florence is as usual one of the hottest cities in Italy, as it is located in a valley crossed by a river. Therefore, the humidity rate is the highest in Italy (the other Italian city with the same problem is Bolzano, in the region of Trentino Alto Adige). Experts suggest to drink lots of water, eat vegetables, and to avoid exposure to the sun in the hottest hours. Also, to get sun in the city is not recommended at all.
