Sherlock Holmes
Running time 128’ mins.
Sherlock Holmes is back. A new investigation for the eccentric and ingenious english investigator placed on screen by talented director Guy Ritchie. Robert Downey Jr. plays a charismatic, intuitive and athletic Holmes helped by a charming and thoughtful Dr. Watson (Jude Law). The two face a mysterious enemy, Lord Blackwood (Marc Strong), involved in black magic who plans to rule over England using fear of magic and superstitions. In the film there is space for two feminine characters, Irene Adler (R. McAdams), an American thief who has a turbulent relationship with Holmes and Mary Morston (K. Reilly), the sweet and patient fiancée of Watson. A film with an enthralling plot, crackling dialogues and excellent performances.
INVICTUS
Running time 133 mins
Invictus, the latest film by Clint Eastwood, tells how president Nelson Mandela (an extraordinary Morgan Freeman) tried to reconcile the South African Nation through rugby. The Springboks lead by Captain Francois Piennar (a convincing Matt Damon) is the national rugby team supported only by a minority of South Africans and hated by the rest of the them as a symbol of apartheid. In 1995 the rugby world cup was played in South Africa and Mandela decided to use this event to spread a message of hope and peace in his country. Perhaps Invictus is not one of Eastwood best films, but it is a good work that shakes audience’s emotions showing how a rugby team won more than a world cup against all odds.
