Richmond University in Florence Organizes A Walk in Medieval FlorenceThrough Dante’s Eyes Event
After last year enthusiastic experience students enrolled in the Dante course at Richmond University will hold on March 17th a ‘literary’ meeting consisting in a guided tour of Medieval Florence.
The event is designed to strengthen the ties between American students studying abroad, tourists and a very complex city like Florence. It is free and open to anybody. Florence, known as ‘the cradle of the Renaissance’, has also many interesting and noteworthy Medieval places mentioned by Dante in his own masterpiece, The Divine Comedy. During the tour, students will refer to Dante’s work by reading key passages and showing what remains of those places in contemporary Florence. They will also point at the Dante Plaques, those inscriptions set up in the streets and squares of the city by the Comune of Florence in 1900, recording the allusions to real places made by Dante in his Comedy. The very special student guides will explain and interpret Dante’s words, making them approachable and enjoyable to a vast public.
